Just a BUNCH of LITTLE STUFF!

Bill didn't come home until Saturday morning/afternoon.
He had a TOOTH pulled and it KICKED HIS BUTT!

He is OK NOW!
UNTIL...he saw the OLD WOODEN BOAT on the BURN PILE
She has been STRIPPED CLEAN!
SO SAD!!

I grabbed the front window to use as a Picture Frame for a picture I want to paint for him of the boat.

Then, I told him after my return from the BEACH, I have been BATTLING ANTS...AGAIN. Wee little PISSY ANTS!

He laughed at me when I told him I could hear them MARCHING across the kitchen floor in the PERFECT LINE from the CAT FOOD to under the dishwasher!

Then when I got up Saturday morning, I could hear SQUEAKY LITTLE VOICES...so SMALL and BABBLING...when I went over to the TOASTER OVEN...my GOD, the ants were running in circles...IT FREAKED ME OUT!

I pulled everything OFF the counters ans scrubbed...then re-scrubbed the kitchen floor.

Later Saturday evening, Bill cooked some steaks on the grill and I made some mash potatoes. A small LUMP of potatoes landed on the counter. When Bill put the dirty dishes in the sink...HE SCREAMED! The ants LOVED that LUMP of potatoes!

The ants were BACK in full BATTLE GEAR!
WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM ????

This morning Bill pulled out ALL of the appliances...we saw NO EVIDENCE of WHERE THE ANTS ARE COMING FROM!

Only consolation is... WE ARE BIGGER!

HEY COLBY!

Gail and I drove up to Rehoboth last Tuesday...of course that included some shopping.
Gail was going to meet me at 404, where I would have left my truck in the COMMUTER LOT! Instead, I called her and told her drive down to Cambridge and meet me in the WALMART parking lot and then we would drive across DELAWARE...same amount of time and same amount of mileage.

We started off from Cambridge toward Rehoboth AFTER...we went to the DOLLAR STORE, WalMart and ate breakfast at DENNY'S.

When we actually got on the road, toward SEAFORD...we stopped at BIG LOTS, PEBBLES and another WALMART!

Back on the ROAD AGAIN... Gail made the comment that..."I LIED TO HER"!!!
OOPS...was I in TROUBLE?
I don't want GAIL mad at me...
WHAT DID SHE MEAN BY THAT?

She finished her THOUGHT by saying..."You LIED to ME...Driving across DELAWARE is WAY LONGER than the Maryland 404 route....so far after 9 hours on the road we still are NOT in REHOBOTH!!!"

She is RIGHT...Maryland 404 route has NO GOOD SHOPPING STOPS!

LUVYA GAIL!

I found this PIX of REHOBOTH BEACH during HURRICANE BILL...
I have NEVER seen WAVES like this...

Hey Colby...WANNA RIDE SOME WAVES?

Here KITTY KITTY

Just another MESSING AROUND Painting!

COMMENT FROM MIKE...

Mike left a comment about our OLD WOODEN BOAT!

Mike said...
Hey, that boat is still young and lovely!
If neither you nor Bill is prepared to restore her there are people out there who will.
Don’t let her rot give her to someone who is prepared to do the work.
MIKE

Oh Mike, I wish that were true. If you know anyone who wants her, let us know.
Bill saved the OLD GIRL from DOOM five years ago. We have enjoyed her so much.
But down here, there MANY OLD WOODEN BOATS sitting the yards or marshes of the fishermen. This is a DEAD ART on the EASTERN SHORE and there just isn't anyone who can do this work or want to do this work.

We checked into having her fiberglassed, but that is so expensive and also compromising her authenticity. Also the mechanics of the old engines is another art that has faded. Bill has worked on her MORE than he has ENJOYED her this past summer.

She has her PROBLEMS FIVE YEARS AGO...
but BILL poured his heart and soul into her
to keep her afloat

Just last year, this community watched TWO other WOODEN WORK BOATS pass away.
It is so sad to see the HISTORY of the EASTERN SHORE fade away. Just not enough young people willing to work the BAY, not enough money to save the history, not enough INTEREST!

She will be destroyed with a TEAR in the EYES of EVERYONE down here...she will be the talk of the town for a few days of old memories and Bill will right there!

The OLD WOODEN BOAT allowed BILL to become a apart of that HISTORICAL COMMUNITY, a FRIEND of the LAST of the DYING HISTORY of the EASTERN SHORE of MARYLAND.

IF everyone could just ASK HOW DID THOSE MARYLAND BLUE CRABS get on my plate just ONE TIME...and make a small effort to FIND OUT...they too may get a TEAR in THEIR EYE!

Bill's Old Wooden Boat

It took a HURRICANE to get some rain down here.
For the PAST WEEK we here in BISHOP'S HEAD just watch the rain to by.
We saw the BLACK CLOUDS and LIGHTENING and heard the THUNDER...but NO RAIN.

He heard RUMORS that it RAINED at Taylor's Island...A LOT!
But none down here!

FINALLY as HURRICANE BILL swept past the Maryland and Delaware BEACHES we managed to get a GOOD DOWN POUR.

Today...another blue skies SUNNY and HOT HOT HOT DAY!

Bill is down at the MARINA...the OLD WOODEN BOAT is NOT GOING TO MAKE IT!

They pulled it to take a look at the bottom...

I guess you could say...WHAT BOTTOM?
Wood is TOO SOFT to repair.

Well, she is over 55 years old...and Bill sure has tried to keep her floating...but the BOAT MAKING SKILLS are GONE from the EASTERN SHORE. I guess it is time to let the OLD GIRL fade away.

I know BILL is sad...but like he said yesterday that SHE allowed him to MEET some of the GREATEST PEOPLE on EARTH and LEARN a DYING way of living on the WATER.

GOSH, we are
ALMOST BOATLESS!
WE only have my ZODIAC and COLBY'S SWAMP SWAN and the ANDIAMO!

HAHAHAHA

But that won't last long...we all KNOW BILL!

Becareful With Your ANSWER!

Tomorrow is Bill's BIRTHDAY.
His office threw him a PARTY today.

Which Cake would you like?

The OFFICE cake...TOO MUCH BLUE!
Oh, LOOK from the GIANT!

Or the HOMEMADE HUMMINGBIRD/DR.BIRD CAKE made loving by your DEAR WIFE?

Yes, I made a CAKE from SCRATCH and I BET YOU...Bill DOES NOT GET SICK!

I will let you know what BILL says!

Hummingbird Cake Recipe:

3cups (420 grams) all-purposeflour
2 cups (400 grams) granulated whitesugar
1 teaspoonbaking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3largeeggs, lightly beaten
3/4cup (180 ml) safflower or canola oil
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 - 8 ounce (227 grams) can crushed pineapple, do not drain
2 cups mashed ripe bananas (3-4 medium sized bananas)

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and place the rack in the center of the oven. Butter or spray two - 9 x 2 inch (23 x 5 cm) round cake pans and line the bottoms of the pans with a circle of parchment paper.

In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

In another large bowl, mix together the eggs, oil, vanilla extract, pineapple, mashed bananas, and finely chopped pecans/almonds. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and stir until combined. Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared pans and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. After about 10 minutes invert the cakes onto the wire rack, remove the pans and parchment paper, and then cool completely before frosting.

What Has Got Into ME?

I have been so PROLIFIC lately.
Well, it is TOO HOT to play outside.

I remember some WISE PERSON [can't remember who that could be] telling me once that if you want to be a writer or artist you have to do it every day!

But I have also, vacuumed and baked Bill a BIRTHDAY CAKE!

Tomorrow is his BIRTHDAY!
Yes, I am still OLDER than HIM!
Damnit!

P.S. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL THESE PAINTINGS?

Like Mother Like Daughter

We have ALL said IT!

"I hope you have kids JUST LIKE YOU, someday!"

Well, Lisa has one!

Lisa walked when she was 9 months old and it LOOKS like ARIANA is on her way!

ARIANA crawled even before she could sit up by herself...sitting up and being still was JUST A WASTE OF TIME. Who wants to sit on their BUTT ALL DAY?

At 7 months old, ARIANA is climbing the stairs!

I believe that is why she was SOMEWHAT a FUSSBUTTON when she was an INFANT...she just wanted to GO! And now she is on her WAY!

Look at her GO!

SO-O-O-O GRATEFUL

Have you ever seen the DISCOVERY CHANNEL'S Nature Series called PLANET EARTH?
Well, if you know me, you know I am FASCINATED by DOCUMENTARIES and ALWAYS have been.

This I passed down to ERIC [not so much Lisa...hers was BUG BUNNY CARTOONS].
Well, Eric has passed it on down to BRADY!

When I go up for a visit, Brady and I ALWAYS watch PLANET EARTH and the Chapter called "THE RIVERS". We talk about it and he ALWAYS asks...

"where is that river going?"

When the RIVER gets to AFRICA, we especially like the part when the ALLIGATORS are swimming in the RIVER.

If you read BRADY'S BLOG at http://babybalighian.blogspot.com/ you will see the most wonderful pictures [so the GRANDMA says] of Brady and Bennett playing in their RIVER!

If not, here are a few!

I am SO GRATEFUL that the BOYS [as I call them] have such a WONDERFUL MOM who INDULGES her BOYS in NATURE and in THEIR interests...That is what a STAY HOME MOM gets to do!

THANX LISA!

Just a Little Whimsy

Not every painting turns out like you want it too.
A few [more than that] end up in the TRASH.
I think it all depends on the MOOD you are in...
This one turned out a little WHIMSICAL that is why I named it...

WHIMSY

Just ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL SUNSET!

It has THUNDERED and LIGHTENING here since 4:00pm.
Now it os 8:00 and still NO RAIN!

There are REALLY DARK CLOUDS in the back of the house...
But look what is out front!

Trying Something New

I am just MESSING AROUND!

HOLY CRAP!

Just sitting at the computer...minding my OWN BUSINESS, reading the news actually, when the MOST HORRENDOUS NOISE came out of the KITCHEN...it sounded like the kitchen ceiling was FALLING IN!

HOLY CRAP...WHAT IS THAT!
I was almost AFRAID to go look!

WELL, you all know that little FRIDGE I have to hold my PEPSI'S???

This is WHAT HAPPENS when you turn the little dial up one notch to get the PEPSI just a little COLDER!

One of those SUCKERS EXPLODES, blowing OPEN the DOOR and allowing the rest of the CASE of PEPSI to go SHOOTING out of the FRIDGE, onto the FLOOR and ACROSS the KITCHEN!

HUNKS of FROZEN PEPSI is SCATTERRED EVERYWHERE.
I should have taken pictures, but I wanted to get the DAMN MESS cleaned up before it melted!

WHY ME?

OH NO...I Did It AGAIN

I am on a roll with this painted furniture kick!
Here is a little STOOL I am taking up to the BEACH!

Here I Go AGAIN!

Just an OLD CHAIR...

Maryland Eastern Shore's MANNA

Our next door neighbor, Lynn...you know, BIG DOUG'S wife, made us CRAB CAKES for dinner.
BILL fried them up as to Lynn's instructions.
We ate them on SALTINE crackers with HOT SAUCE on them as per LYNN'S instructions too!

For a side dish we had EASTERN SHORE homegrown WATERMELON!

WHAT A FEAST!

My "FAMILY WALL"

I had a VERY INTERESTING day yesterday [Friday].
I couldn't fall asleep for over 16 hours.
I never had done that before.
But, that is ok...I got a lot done around the house.

I finally fell asleep last night around 10:30 and Bill came home and woke me up around 4:30 am. His plane landed at BWI at midnight, so he decided just to drive home and NOT stop in Baltimore.

I always have a HONEY-DO LIST for Bill when he comes home.
This weekend was to help me hang NEW PICTURES on my FAMILY WALL!

He did a GREAT JOB.
As he sits in front of the TV, he still has a few more TO-DO'S to get done!

Also, yesterday...AFLAC got out of his pen and was running around the neighborhood.
AFLAC is a CANADA GOOSE that belongs to one of my neighbors. I heard him making a lot of noise yesterday in my front yard and when I went to see what was going on, KITTY...was STALKING him around the yard. AFLAC was NOT having any of that.

Both were just having some fun and all is well.

My Own PERSONAL SHOPPER!

I have risen to the RANKS of ROYALTY!
I have my OWN PERSONAL SHOPPER!

You all know GAIL!
She is a GREAT SHOPPER who ONLY buys from the SALE RACK!

Well, the LAST TIME I went shopping, I bought this dress...

Then, I asked Gail, if she sees a pair of BLACK CAPRI's in my size [which she knows] and my style [which she also knows] to pick me up a pair from the END OF THE YEAR SUMMER SALES RACK - 60% OFF or MORE!

She said....SURE!

Not only did she picked up a pair of BLACK CAPRI's that FIT...Regular Price $30.00 on SALE for $8.99

BUT...

She also picked up this SHIRT by one of my favorite makers...ERIKA...Regular Price $30.00 on SALE for $8.99 too!

But the AMAZING THING...is that the SHIRT matches the DRESS PERFECTLY!

I just HOPE Gail doesn't start charging me a FINDER'S FEE!

Look What I Woke Up To This Morning

YEP, That is ARIANA peeping over the bed rails!

On Tuesday, I drove across the Bay Bridge to see the GRANDKIDS.
The BOYS are GREAT and it is unbelieveable that BENNETT at 7 months old, knows EXACTLY what a JOHN DEERE TRACTOR is and how to use and play with it!

BRADY is doing such a GREAT JOB sharing too!

After staying overnight at the BOYS, I drove to see ARIANA!

She use to be such a FUSSBUTTON!
But now she is just "CUTE AS A BUTTON"!

We had BREAKFAST at Bob Evans and she was SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!
Her MOM has done such a GREAT JOB!

One thing I can compare ARIANA and BENNETT to is...HOW FAST THEY CAN GET AROUND!

SORRY Bennett...Ariana is WAY FASTER than you in getting where she wants to go!

Next time you all get together, you will have to have a RACE!
HAHAHAHAHA

BILL Off On Another Adventure!

Yes, Bill is OFF traveling again...
To the CARRIBEAN during the HOTTEST week here!
How does he MANAGE IT?

He sent me this PIX from his IPHONE...he is waiting in line to board a PUDDLE JUMPER from San Juan, PR to Dominica...

Sometimes the planes are EVEN SMALLER!

Be careful Bill!

ANTICIPATION...

I am ANTICIPATING that some of you MIGHT dropped in to see me before the SUMMER is OVER!

Well, just in case, I spent almost 3 hours cleaning and re-decorating the GUEST BEDROOM!

I even put on NEW BED SKIRTS on all of the beds, changed ALL the sheets [even though they were ALREADY clean since NO ONE has slept in them for AGES...]and bought NEW PILLOWS!

See how much I APPRECIATE YOU ALL?
HAHAHAHA!!!!

No GAIL, nothing MATCHES...but...I JUST CAN'T DO IT!
PLEASE...DON'T MAKE ME!

SWAMP WEATHER!

High: 98 °F
Low: 76 °F

Heat advisory until 8pm tonite!
UGH!

Sunday, August 9, 2009

HOT HOT HOT

100 DEGREES!
Boy is it HOT!

And tonite you can SMELL the SWAMP bubbling out there!
Thank goodness it is still just FAINT...stinky swamp!

But, the heat is DRYING up my MUD PIT!
HOORAY!!

I saw some incredible SWAMP MONSTERS yesterday!
Take a look!

We saw this SPIDER last year up at Ms. Dora's and she decided to come back!

Bill stuck is finger at her so you can get a perspective how bug she is!

And what about this FLY? HUGE! About 2 inches long!

MY NEW DECK

Remember how HAPPY I was about my NEW DECK?
Well, it is a mess now!
BOO HOO!

THANX to David and Andrew, two good ole boys who helped put up a UGLY OUTRAGEOUS ORANGE CONSTRUCTION FENCE around the DECK so the DOGS will not WALK in that MESS!
